Documentary

Dances on the Prairie is a half hour film that documents the creation and development of the Texas Sculpture Garden over a period of two years, from the unique vision that inspired it to it's opening celebration. The documentary unfolds primarily through the words of the diverse, talented, and highly engaging community of artists involved in the Texas Sculpture Garden. The artists candidly discuss influences on their work, provide insight into the creative process, and ponder what it means to be a "Texas Artist." The documentary also employs the garden to explore the participative nature of art, the vital role that art plays in the lives of both the artists and audience, and the direct impact art can have on a community. Several prominent Texas sculptors are featured in the film including: James Surls, Frances Bagley, Jerry Daniel, Damian Priour, Eliseo Garcia, Isaac Smith, Sherry Owens, Art Shirer, and Polly Gessell, among others. The documentary was produced by Chicago filmmaker Brijetta Hall and Metta Productions, Inc. Art featured in the Texas Sculpture Garden can also be explored and enjoyed here.
